THE FAITH-BASED RECOVERY MODEL

TEACH FARMING

The TN Dept of Education Best Practice CTE Model - Follow guidelines as outlined in the DC Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) curriculum developed by Dr. Melissa Loveless, Unaka High School, CTE Principal.

  • SAEs allow students to experience the diversity of agriculture and natural resources industries and to gain exposure to agricultural-related career pathways.

  • DC SAE requires a documented formal project scope, accurate recordkeeping, and student advisor supervision.  At the onset of the SAE, each student develops their own personalized learning plan (PLP) and set five (5) specific SMART goals.

DONATE HARVEST

Partner with Recovery Center

  • All produce harvested is donated to Recovery Center

  • Students farmers experience self-esteem building as they provide for their fellow residents, family and community as a result of their own efforts.

  • Many of the students families benefit from the free/reduced breakfast and lunch programs provided through federal programs, so this partnership could also benefit the students and their families directly through the outreach aspect.

MENTOR YOUTH

"Share in the Bounty of Our Harvest" dinners with fellow residents and their families.

  • Children witness the positive effects of hard work, team work, and community-driven programs.

  • Students farmers experience self-esteem building as they provide for their fellow residents, family and community as a result of their own efforts.

  • Provides the students an opportunity to serve as mentors to the younger generation.
