Media Alert: Carter County Community Gathers to Raise Gardens at the Drop Farm - You are Invited!

Wednesday June 15th - 8am to noon Drop Farm: 500 Dry Hollow Road, Elizabethton

Contact: Melissa Loveless, melissaloveless@carterk12.net

The Drop Collaborative (www.dropcollaborative.com) is a family-owned farm located at 500 Dry Hollow Road, Elizabethton, that is the home of Unaka High School's Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. Students apply to be enrolled for course credit to work at the farm learning sustainable agriculture and mentorship, while helping strengthen their community through food. The food and meat raised is donated to area food banks. In 2015 the collaboration donated 500 pounds of food and was selected at a Best Practice in CTE(Career and Technical Education) by the Tennessee Dept. of Education. On June 15th you are invited to "Drop By The Drop Farm." Lowes of Elizabethton has donated materials for raised beds. Alongside Lowes staff, multi-generations will be constructing the beds, including high school students from Unaka, and younger kids from Carter Cares summer program will be there to help plant the new beds. The Farm also has animals that the Unaka SAE students are raising.

A video, and more on the Drop Collaborative's successes in its first year can be seen at www.dropcollaborative.com
