Preparing the Land. Preparing for Life.

While our DC AG SAE students and their teacher, Cody Ayers, have been diligently expanding the raised bed garden (dedicated to Margaret Meyer), they have also been gaining first-hand experience in something just as important: how to prepare a farm, animals, and infrastructure for severe winter weather.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Drop Collaborative

With an impending storm expected to bring everything from heavy snow and ice to power outages and hazardous road conditions, students are learning what it truly takes to prepare for inclement conditions.

From protecting livestock health and well-being to securing structures, water access, and feed, this work goes far beyond the classroom. It is real-world problem solving that shows how weather impacts land, animals, and people, and why preparation matters.

These lessons are not just about farming. They are about responsibility, resilience, and awareness. Skills that translate directly into everyday life.

As this storm approaches, we encourage everyone to stay safe and stay informed. Please remain connected with your local communities, whether through neighborhood groups, local news outlets, or community social media pages that are providing updates for fellow Tennesseans. These resources often share critical guidance on how to prepare your home, your loved ones, and your animals for severe winter conditions.

Preparedness is a shared effort.

Looking out for one another is how communities weather the storm together.
