A New Heifer is Born at The Drop Collaborative
We’re thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy new heifer, Rose, born to mama cow Betsy! Both mom and calf are doing well, and Rose tipped the scale at just over 54 lbs. Special thanks to DC SAE AG Unaka High School Teacher, Cody Ayers, who was on hand to oversee the birth and ensure everything went smoothly.
With this new calf, The Drop Collaborative now has two cows in our growing animal family, which also includes chickens, two pigs, and a thriving pond filled with fish, turtles, and even a few snakes. And we’re not done yet. More livestock will be joining us in our Fall 2025 10-Year Anniversary Season.
Why does this matter?
Because this is real life, real time, real learning. Each animal is part of the hands-on education and daily experience offered to our high school students enrolled in the DC SAE AG Program. From animal care to land stewardship, our students gain invaluable skills that prepare them for life and work beyond the classroom.
Every single animal, bale of hay, bag of feed, and veterinary service has been gifted or purchased with donations from generous community members and businesses of all sizes.
We couldn’t do this without you.
Your support not only ensures the well-being of these animals but also fuels our mission to mentor students from grade school through high school. You’re helping shape a future rooted in our founding principles: Provide Land. Teach Farming. Donate Harvest. Mentor Youth.
